This online short course is spread out over two weeks to accommodate a full-time working schedule. It includes a mix of learning experiences - six short live sessions (with a choice of 9:00am or 5:00pm ET), brief pre-recorded video seminars to review when convenient, and homework exercises. The curriculum also includes a live patient presentation and a special session addressing the role of the non-physician in patient diagnosis/management. The duration of the course allows a comprehensive review of the topic and the opportunity to apply the learned principles to several clinical situations.

    OBJECTIVES:

At the end of each training, attendees should be able to:

    • Detail the varied phenotypes of the organic acidemias
    • Review the disease physiology and link it to the clinical and biochemical phenotypes.
    • Characterize the biochemical derangements that typify the organic acidemias and how they apply to diagnosis and therapeutic monitoring.
    • Employ current guidelines for the diagnosis and management of patients with an organic acidemia.
    • Formulate in conjunction with other team members specific assessments and care-plans of patients with suspected or proven organic acidemias.

    FACULTY:

    • Mark Korson, MD
    • Lynne Wolfe, MS, CRNP, BC
